Clinton marches in New York City gay pride parade

Hillary Clinton took her presidential campaign to the streets of New York City Sunday to march in the annual gay pride parade.

The presumptive Democratic nominee’s campaign social media accounts posted photos of the former New York senator and secretary of state walking along the parade route amid supporters waving rainbow flags.

And, also via Twitter, Clinton used the occasion to mark last year’s Supreme Court decision Obergefell v. Hodges, which mandated that all states recognize gay marriages.

“One year ago, love triumphed in our highest court,” Clinton wrote in a personally signed tweet. “Yet LGBT Americans still face too many barriers. Let’s keep marching until they don’t.”

Clinton’s route takes her near the Stonewall Inn, the site designated by President Obama as a national monument this week in recognition of the 1969 riots considered a seminal moment in gay rights activism.

Clinton also used the occasion to criticize her general election opponent, Republican Donald Trump.

“Donald Trump’s pledge to consider appointing Supreme Court justices who would overturn marriage equality underscores the fact that so much of the progress we’ve made is at stake in November,” Clinton wrote in a statement distributed by her campaign.
