Pete Buttigieg said it is time for 2020 Democrats to stop being concerned about what Republicans say about their policies, especially if conservatives call proposals socialist.
“It’s time to stop worrying about what the Republicans will say,” the South Bend, Indiana mayor said during Tuesday’s Democratic debate. “If it’s true that we embrace a far left agenda, they’re going to say we’re a bunch crazy socialists. If we embrace a conservative agenda, you know what they’re going to do? They’re going to say we’re a bunch of crazy socialists. So let’s stand up for the right policy, go up there and defend it.”
Buttigieg then credited the Affordable Care Act, which Republicans said was the start of Democrats’ shift toward more socialist policies, with saving his mother-in-law’s life.
