Psaki holds first briefing since testing positive for COVID-19

White House press secretary Jen Psaki held her first press briefing Friday since testing positive for the coronavirus on Oct. 31.

At the top of her remarks, Psaki outlined the exact timeline of her case, which prevented her from traveling with President Joe Biden to Italy and the United Kingdom in late October.

She noted that though she was originally going to travel with the presidential delegation, she chose not to after multiple members of her direct family tested positive on Oct. 26.

“Then on Oct. 31, I received a positive test, and I put out that information out of an abundance of transparency,” Psaki continued. “I had not seen the president or had close contact for five days, given the trip, and when I did see him five days prior, we wore masks, and we were sitting outside.”

The top White House spokeswoman added that her symptoms remained mild throughout her case, adding that she is “incredibly grateful for the vaccine and the impact of the vaccine and keeping me safe and other people in my house safe as well.”

Finally, the press secretary noted that her return to work fell in line with protocol involving a 10-day quarantine.

“For the math, it started on Nov. 1, which was the day after I received a positive test,” Psaki stated. “It ended on Wednesday, Nov. 10, and then yesterday, per White House protocols, I had a negative test, and hence I am here back with all of you today.”
