Trump claims people compare him and UK’s Boris Johnson: ‘They call him Britain Trump’

President Trump congratulated the U.K.’s Boris Johnson on becoming the country’s next prime minister.

Trump addressed Johnson, claiming he’s been dubbed the “Britain Trump,” while speaking at a Turning Point USA conference on Tuesday.

“We have a really good man who’s going to be the prime minister of the U.K. now, Boris Johnson,” Trump stated. “Good man. He’s tough and he’s smart. They’re saying Britain Trump. They call him Britain Trump. And people are saying that’s a good thing. They like me over there. That’s what they wanted. That’s what they need. It’s what they need. He’ll get it done. Boris is good. He’s going to do a good job.”

The president also congratulated Johnson in a tweet.

Johnson easily defeated his rival within the Conservative Party Jeremy Hunt earlier in the day. Johnson won with 92,153 votes compared to 46,656 for Hunt out of an eligible electorate of 159,320 party members.

He will be replacing Theresa May.
