A man from California has been convicted for a race-related rampage that ended with four people dead.
Kori Ali Muhammad was found guilty Wednesday of a number of crimes, including first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and attempted murder. He withdrew his guilty by reason of insanity plea on Friday after the state agreed not to pursue the death penalty, according to the Associated Press.
The deaths stemmed from an April 2017 shooting spree that began in Fresno when he shot Carl Williams III, a Motel 6 security guard who he said had disrespected him. When Muhammad found out he was wanted for the shooting, he planned to “kill as many white men” as he could before being caught, according to a taped confession.
“It starts taking its toll on you, and you get fed up with the racism,” Muhammad said. “You get tired of letting things slide.”
Muhammad later drove through downtown Fresno and began firing at white men. At one point, he said he noticed a truck with a Mexican driver and a white passenger, 34-year-old Zachary Randalls.

“When I walked up to the truck, I saw a Mexican driver and a white guy,” Muhammad said. “I didn’t want to target the driver because he was Mexican, so I shot the white dude.”
Muhammad was also found guilty of murdering Mark Gassett, 37, and 58-year-old David Jackson. He faces life in prison, with a sentencing date set for next month.
