‘Willful sabotage’: Roger Stone rips Lindsey Graham for abortion bill that will help Democrats

Trump ally Roger Stone criticized Sen. Lindsey Graham’s (R-SC) sweeping proposal to ban abortion nationwide after 15 weeks of gestation, fretting that the measure could tip the Senate to the Democrats.

Highlighting concerns that other prominent conservatives have raised about the abortion ban distracting voters from other GOP-friendly topics, Stone argued that abortion policy should be relegated to the states and accused Graham of “purposely helping the Democrats.”

15-WEEK BAN SPLITS GOP AS ABORTION LOOMS OVER MIDTERM ELECTIONS

“Willful sabotage. The states must decide whether to regulate or ban abortion. This federal election is about our safety, security, health, food supply, economy, free speech, and the corruption of our Justice system unless RINOS and Democrats try to make it about federal abortion policy,” Stone wrote in a scathing post to Truth Social.

“Lindsey Graham is purposely helping the Democrats to ensure that we do not take back the US Senate,” he added.

Graham unveiled the Protecting Pain-Capable Unborn Children from Late-Term Abortions Act on Tuesday, which includes exceptions for instances of rape, incest, and safeguarding the life of the mother. A number of Republicans have fretted that the proposal could give Democrats fodder as the midterm cycle enters the homestretch.

Democrats are favored to keep control of the Senate, according to forecasts from FiveThirtyEight and others, but Republicans have remained hopeful that they can still pull off a win for the evenly divided upper chamber.

Since the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision, which relegated the question of abortion back to Congress and state legislatures, Democrats have seemingly garnered momentum in polling, blunting the so-called red wave. They have often harped on abortion in campaign ads, warning voters that the GOP plots to ban the controversial procedure nationwide.

Graham has argued the measure, which is dead on arrival in the Senate, will put the United States in step with the rest of the developed world on abortion and has cited polling that shows most people favor a 15-week ban.

However, some Republicans have feared the move would enable Democrats to caricature the GOP as plotting to enact drastic restrictions on abortion nationally.

A number of Graham’s colleagues have sought to distance themselves from the 15-week ban, including John Cornyn (R-TX), Ron Johnson (R-WI), and even Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).
