‘Maybe God is watching over us after all’: Jimmy Kimmel plays video of Trump being struck by lightning

Comedian Jimmy Kimmel played a video edited to show President Trump being struck by lightning while holding a Bible in front of St. John’s Episcopal Church.

During Tuesday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the late-night host ridiculed the president for posing with a Bible at the historic church in Washington, D.C., which caught on fire Sunday night after protests over racism and police brutality turned violent.

“So after Trump paid his respects, the White House, which vehemently denied that photo in front of the church was a photo-op, posted a highlights reel, a video, celebrating the president’s heroic walk across the street with an inspiring soundtrack and everything,” Kimmel said.

He then played a video of Trump walking to the church and holding up a Bible outside, which was edited to show lightning hitting the president, leaving him charred.

“Well, maybe God is watching over us after all,” Kimmel joked. “It’s just hard to believe he exists.”

On Monday, law enforcement cleared a crowd of protesters away from Lafayette Square with nonlethal weapons to clear a path for Trump to walk to the church after wrapping up his remarks in the White House Rose Garden. The president posed for photos in front of the church, which has been attended by every president since James Madison, with several members of his administration.

“We have a great country,” he said while holding the Bible. He did not open it or read passages from the holy book.
