‘Salem witches got better deals than this’: Graham rages at Pelosi’s impeachment announcement

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina slammed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi following her Thursday morning announcement that she would be pursuing articles of impeachment against President Trump.

“Glad to see @SpeakerPelosi is ‘keeping her word’ to be thoughtful and prayerful about impeachment,” Graham tweeted sarcastically. “One day after hearings involving law professors giving their opinions she is directing Articles of Impeachment be drafted. Salem witches got better deals than this.”

Constitutional scholars invited by the Democrats testified for hours in front of the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, citing several instances of what they perceived to be impeachable offensives. Noah Feldman, Pamela Karlan, and Michael Gerhardt all gave testimony that buoyed the calls for impeachment by Democrats but faced sharp criticism by the Right for coming from a place of bias.

Pelosi asserted that “uncontested facts” led her to call for articles of impeachment on Thursday, saying that the announcement so soon after the testimony was due to the president’s perceived malfeasance and need for urgency. “The president leaves us no choice but to act because he is trying to corrupt once again, the election for his own personal benefit,” Pelosi said. “Today, I am asking our chairman to proceed with articles of impeachment.”

Graham quickly responded on Twitter that the testimony provided by “three liberal law professors” were not likely to change the mind of the American public. “Shocking!……..Three liberal law professors testifying they believe @realDonaldTrump did something wrong has not dramatically shifted public opinion in favor of impeachment. Liberal law professors wanted to impeach Trump on Inauguration Day.”

“The American people are smart enough to see through this sham,” he added.
