President Trump intends to make a decision on Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen’s future with his administration “shortly,” he said in a new interview.
“I’m looking at things. I haven’t made a decision yet,” Trump told The Daily Caller in an interview Wednesday. “I will be making a decision on Homeland shortly. I have not made decisions yet. I will be making changes on various things.”
Nielsen’s future as the head of the Department of Homeland Security has been the subject of renewed speculation after the Washington Post reported Tuesday that Trump told advisers he intends to remove Nielsen from her post as early as this week.
White House chief of staff John Kelly, however, has been working to delay Nielsen’s departure, aides told the Washington Post.
Trump told The Daily Caller that it’s typical for there to be personnel changes within a presidential administration after a midterm election. “We’re looking at a lot of options,” the president said. “A lot of people want to come in, a lot of politicians who have had very successful careers want to come in.”
