‘I thought it was an Onion headline’: Sarah Sanders slams New York Times calling for DNC to investigate Biden sexual assault accusation

Former White House press secretary Sarah Sanders compared a New York Times editorial to something out of a satire site.

Sanders joined Fox News on Monday and said she thought she was reading a story published by the Onion when she saw a piece from the New York Times editorial board calling for the Democratic National Committee to investigate an accusation of sexual assault against Joe Biden.

“I thought it was an Onion headline, not a New York Times headline. They should be embarrassed for themselves for even suggesting that idea,” the Fox News contributor said.

The post by the editorial board is headlined “Investigate Tara Reade’s Allegations” and says, “The Democratic National Committee should move to investigate the matter swiftly and thoroughly, with the full cooperation of the Biden campaign.”

The opinion piece also said, “Any inventory should be strictly limited to information about Ms. Reade and conducted by an unbiased, apolitical panel, put together by the D.N.C. and chosen to foster as much trust in its findings as possible.”

The editorial board piece comes after Reade claimed Biden pushed her against a wall and penetrated her with his fingers when she was working as a staff assistant in his Senate office in the 1990s. Biden denies the allegation.

Sanders continued Monday, “The fact that they went so aggressively after Justice Kavanaugh and then demanded to get to the bottom of things, but want to just brush this aside I think is the real challenge that most people are dealing with right now, and they want to see a level of fairness from both sides.”

Others have called attention to the New York Times editorial, asking if it’s satire.
