Pelosi dismisses Republican criticism over border crisis

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday hit back at Republicans who have called for her and other Democratic leaders to visit the southern border.

“My schedule is not determined by the Republicans in the Congress of the United States. It never has been, nor their schedule is determined by me,” Pelosi, a California Democrat, told the Washington Examiner. “I’ve been to the border many times. I’ve been to the Northern Triangle right up until the time of the COVID descending upon us.”

SOME TRUMP IMMIGRATION POLICIES ARE GOOD AND SHOULD STAY, DEMOCRATS SAY

Congressional Republicans have called on President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and Pelosi to visit the border facilities that members of their conference are taking trips to inspect. GOP lawmakers say the facilities are filled to capacity with unaccompanied minors and migrant families.

Republican lawmakers have documented their visits inside the facilities, releasing photos and videos of the environment.

Additionally, the members spoke to local law enforcement and community leaders about the pressures they are facing with the influx of migrants illegally crossing the border.

“I commend my colleagues as well as the president for being solutions-oriented there. The fact is that the Trump administration made a mess because they did not share the values or any of the respect of any these people there,” Pelosi said. “Go to the Northern Triangle, as the vice president is going to do. See what is there. When I was there with the delegation, what we saw confirmed what we suspected about violence about corruption.”
