Five D.C. elementary school students were taken to the hospital after a student provided them with cocaine, officials said.
At about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, police got a report of several ill children at Thomson Elementary School, 1200 L Street NW, D.C. fire spokesman Pete Piringer said. About seven children complained of minor irritation to their throats after swollowing a substance provided by one student to the others, Piringer said.
D.C. Public Schools spokesman Fred Lewis confirmed Thursday afternoon that the substance was cocaine. Police are investigating.
Five were taken to a hospital, but the symptoms were not serious.
