The Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards has jokingly implored Americans to remove President Trump from office.
“Now America has to get rid of him. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!” Richards told the BBC in an interview published Tuesday.
The legendary English guitarist made the comments while retelling an interesting encounter he had with Trump during the Rolling Stones’ Steel Wheels Tour in 1989.
“He [Trump] was the promoter for us in Atlantic City. [It was billed as] ‘Donald Trump presents the Rolling Stones’ [with the band’s name written in smaller font underneath],” Richards said.
“I got out my trusty blade, stuck it in the table and said: ‘You have to get rid of this man!'” he continued.
Bandmate Mick Jagger added Trump’s use of their song, “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” at some of his public events was an odd choice.
“It’s a funny song for a play-out song — a drowsy ballad about drugs in Chelsea! It’s kind of weird. He couldn’t be persuaded to use something else,” Jagger said, according to the BBC.
The duo were promoting the Rolling Stones’ No Filter Tour, which is set to start in Dublin, Ireland, on May 17.
