Republican National Convention attendees will be greeted with a billboard featuring presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump about to kiss former rival Ted Cruz.
“Love Trumps Hate,” reads the sign sponsored by gay activist group Planting Peace that went up in Cleveland, Ohio, on Thursday. The two are shown in an intimate embrace.
Planting Peace said in a statement that the sign is designed to combat “negative, hateful messages” about homosexuality from the GOP. The proposed party platform opposes same-sex marriage while supporting the conscience rights of dissenters and efforts to restrict bathroom usage based on biological sex.
The draft will be presented for a vote upon the opening of the Republican National Convention on Monday.
“Planting Peace calls for the immediate change in the Republican party platform with regard to our LGBT family and LGBT rights. Never again shall a negative, hateful message be uttered in the name of ‘religious freedom,'” the group said.
