Train carrying ammonia derails in Baltimore

A CSX train carrying anhydrous ammonia derailed in South Baltimore early Tuesday morning but did not cause spills or injuries, officials said.

The accident occurred at about 3:45 a.m., according to Garrick Francis, a spokesman for CSX. An engine and two cars, one carrying the chemical, and the other steel, remained upright but leaning, he said. Frankfurst Avenue in Brooklyn was closed for several hours while crews used a crane to right the cars.

Hazmat crews responded as a precaution. Francis said the train was back on the track by 2:30 p.m.
