‘Tell the world, Johnny’: Highlights from third week of fiery Depp defamation suit

Actor Johnny Depp’s $50 million defamation suit against ex-wife Amber Heard delivered on laughs, evidence, and memorable moments in its third week.

The week began with Depp concluding his testimony after a week straight on the stand. His attorney, Jessica Myers, examined him in a redirect Monday, replaying an audio recording between the two from 2016.

“What did you say in response when Ms. Heard said, ‘Tell the world, Johnny. Tell them, Johnny Depp. “I, Johnny Depp, a man — I’m a victim, too, of domestic violence”‘?” Meyers asked.

“I said, ‘Yes, I am,'” Depp responded.

“The only person I’ve abused in my life is myself,” Depp said in response to questions about his drinking.

Next, a forensic psychologist took the stand Tuesday after examining Heard using the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2. The doctor said Heard’s behavior was “really characteristic of borderline personality disorder.

Dr. Shannon Curry described Heard’s symptoms as “extreme discomfort at not being the center of attention and extreme effort to be the center of attention,” which can include “making up stories” in order to appear in the “victim or princess role.”

On Wednesday, witnesses testified that Heard hadn’t kept her promise to donate her $7 million divorce settlement to the American Civil Liberties Union and Children’s Hosptial Los Angeles.

The actress had only paid $200,000 to the hospital, which Depp’s accountant sent at the time of the settlement. She had paid $1.2 million to the ACLU, but $100,000 of it was from Depp after the settlement, and $850,000 was ostensibly from then-boyfriend Elon Musk’s pocket.

Lawyers for Heard went on to argue that the gifts were meant to be paid over 10 years, yet Depp’s accountant, Edward White, testified Thursday that Heard had received the entirety of her settlement by November 2018 across five payments.

Security guard Malcolm Connolly also took the stand Thursday, sharing stories of Heard throwing items at Depp. He’d been working for Depp for nearly 20 years and suddenly watched the actor become “quieter” and occasionally appear with “swelling” and “a scratch every once in awhile.”

Meanwhile, outside the courtroom, a petition to remove Heard from the Aquaman sequel garnered over 2 million signatures.

In another development, Musk’s attorney revealed this week that the billionaire, who was on an initial witness list and set to testify remotely, will no longer be taking the stand.
