Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said she was channeling President Abraham Lincoln when she told Goldman Sachs that she has private political positions and public political positions.
She said Lincoln used different arguments on different people in order to make his political desires happen, and that’s what she was referring to in her comments.
“That was something I said about Abraham Lincoln, after having seen the wonderful Steven Spielberg movie called ‘Lincoln,'” she said. “It was a masterclass watching President Lincoln get the Congress to approve the 13th Amendment. It was principled and it was strategic and I was making the point that it is hard sometimes to get the Congress to do what you want to do.”
