Six public schools in Prince George’s County will remain closed on Friday as teams inspect the buildings for damage from Tuesday’s earthquake.
Thirty-two of the county’s schools were closed Thursday, but damage assessments throughout the day showed most were ready to reopen, school officials said.
“We are working as quickly as possible to get the necessary building inspections completed so that school can resume for all students,” Superintendent William Hite said.
There are 198 schools in the Prince George’s public school system, the second-largest in Maryland.
All Prince George’s County Public Schools and D.C. Public Schools were closed Wednesday after a 5.8-magnitude earthquake trembled out of Virginia.
Just one District school, School Without Walls in Foggy Bottom, remained closed Thursday and will stay closed Friday. The students will be relocated to Eastern High School, east of Capitol Hill, if the building still needs repairs Monday.
