House Democratic women wearing suffragette white at Trump State of the Union

House Democratic women wore white for the second State of the Union address in a row to honor the women’s suffrage movement.

“We’re ready in our suffragette white for tonight’s State of the Union,” Rep. Debbie Dingell said in a Tuesday tweet with a picture of the Democratic women in their outfits.

The outfits appear to be a not-so-subtle jab at President Trump. Rep. Brenda Lawrence, the co-chair of the Democratic Women’s Caucus, said the women stand “against President Trump’s backwards agenda.” She added that he is attacking “the foundation that was built by the women pioneers of this country.”

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also wore suffragette white when she officially became the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee.
