Look up in the sky! It’s not a bird or a plane, it’s ….

Well it’s not Superman but it is a Supermoon and it’s scheduled to light up the night sky in the Washington region on Saturday. Just in time for all the Cince de Mayo reveler — how considerate.

On ‘Supermoon Saturday,’ as its being dubbed by media outlets, the moon is scheduled to reach its closest point to Earth around 11:35 p.m. EDT. Called the perigee, the distance is about 221,802 miles away.

It is estimated the distance will be the shortest point between the Earth and the moon all year. The moon will also be about 16 percent brighter, according to experts, and accompanied by higher- and lower-than-normal tides this weekend and into next week.
