Our Stars and Stripes has Flag Day in June, but thanks to the wisdom sent to me from Betsy Albert Hayes, vice president of investments at Chapin Davis, I thought it would be appropriate to pass on some guidelines for displaying the flag, especially on our 230th birthday.
» In good weather, the flag should be flown daily from sunrise to sunset.
» The flag may be displayed around the clock only if properly illuminated.
» Only an “all-weather” flag may be displayed in bad weather.
» The flag should never touch anything below it.
» From a staff in a church or on a podium in a public auditorium, the flag should hold the position of prominence over other flags.
» When the flag is soiled or torn, it should be destroyed.

TODAY?S THE DAY
Have you ever heard of V-Fest?
Neither had I. So I did what I always do and Googled it. And plain as day via the DCist Web site, “V-Fest to come to Pimlico on September 23rd, 2006.” From Leader-Post-Canadian Press writer Cassandra Szklarski: “Bands will inaugurate North America?s first ?V-Fest? at Toronto?s Island Park on Sept. 9 and 10. The festival is expected to stop in Baltimore, Md., later this year.”
This huge music festival from the United Kingdom is the brainchild of kazillionaire Richard Branson (Virgin Group) and ? from my sources ? he has expressed interest in making a trip across the pond, possibly to Baltimore. Could it be? The likes of The Who and the Red Hot Chili Peppers playing at Old Hilltop? Could today ? the Fourth of July ? be the day that Sir Richard drops from a helicopter to make the big announcement?
Usually this music festival, which features around 40 bands, attracts crowds of 50,000.
