Retiring Republican Sen. Jeff Flake has not ruled out challenging President Trump in the 2020 presidential primaries.
“It’s not in my plans, but I’ve not ruled anything out,” Flake told NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday.
Flake says if he doesn’t run, he hopes another Republican will step up to challenge Trump to remind the party what it represents.
“I do hope that somebody runs on the Republican side other than the president, if nothing else, simply to remind Republicans what conservatism is and what Republicans have traditionally stood for,” he said.
When asked if he’d run as a Republican, Flake said he “can’t imagine doing anything else.”
