Former Vice President Joe Biden, speaking Wednesday night at the Democratic National Committee’s annual LGBT Gala in New York, told attendees to “hold President Trump accountable for his pledge to be your friend.”
Biden received the inaugural LGBT hero award for his advocacy on behalf of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people, a key voting bloc that supported former President Barack Obama.

“The first thing we should do, even though he won’t respond, is hold President Trump accountable for his pledge to be your friend,” Biden said, urging the crowd to stay active in politics. “Just because you don’t have Barack and me in the White House doesn’t mean it’s time to give up, keep quiet, stay on the sidelines.”
Trump campaigned on being a “real friend” to the LGBT community. He promised he’d be “better for the gays” than his 2016 election opponent, Democrat Hillary Clinton.
