Residents in the District of Columbia spend less on household energy bills and motor fuel than those in any state, according to a WalletHub study released Wednesday.
The average monthly energy bill for a Washington, D.C., resident is $219. Compare that to the $380 people pay in Connecticut, where energy is most expensive in the U.S.
Washingtonians use 25.9 gallons of fuel per month, nearly three times lower than the nation’s highest consumer, Wyoming.
Most of the states with the lowest energy costs are known as more environmentally friendly than others, including California, Washington, Oregon, and New Mexico.
Hawaiians consumed the least amount of electricity per person, while Louisianans used three times more electricity per month at 1,421 kilowatt-hours. But, Hawaii residents pay the most for electricity at $0.2960 per kilowatt.
President Trump recently announced a plan to grow the nuclear-energy sector and increase coal exports — moves that are meant to lower America’s reliance on foreign oil and energy costs.
