Indiana AG defends Kanye West’s ‘independent thinking’ after antisemitic tweet

Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita (R) defended Kanye West against the “hypocrisy of the media” after the rapper and producer was locked out of his Twitter account for an antisemitic tweet.

West’s tweet followed an appearance on Tucker Carlson’s show on Thursday. West, who legally changed his name to “Ye,” teased a 2024 presidential run during the lengthy interview. Earlier that week, he had been photographed wearing a “White Lives Matter” shirt at a fashion show.

“The constant hypocrisy from the media is at an all-time high,” Rokita tweeted Sunday. “They have now gone after Kanye for his new fashion line, his independent thinking, & for having opposing thoughts from the norm of Hollywood. Kanye’s message in this instance is fair and accurate, & regardless, he is entitled to his opinion. The media will steamroll anyone if they do not kowtow to their way of thinking.”

Rokita qualified that West’s Twitter thread “was specifically and clearly aimed at the hypocrisy of the media and Hollywood elites, not anything to do with other comments. I have an obvious, clear and substantial Congressional and public record of being 100% supportive of the Jewish community and Israel.”

In a now-removed tweet, West said he would go on the offensive against Jewish people.

“I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE. The funny thing is I actually can’t be Anti Semitic because black people are actually Jew also You guys have toyed with me and tried to black ball anyone whoever opposes your agenda,” West said.

Rokita served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2011 to 2019. He joined 10 other attorneys general in filing an amicus brief in support of former President Donald Trump after his Mar-a-Lago residence was raided by the FBI in August.
