Republican Sen. Dean Heller said he won’t vote for a House GOP bill that would repeal Obamacare, the second moderate senator and third Republican to pull support.
The Nevada Republican told Bloomberg Friday that he agrees with Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval in opposing the American Health Care Act. Heller is the third GOP senator to announce his opposition, joining moderate Republican Sen. Susan Collins, of Maine, who announced her opposition Thursday. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., also has said he won’t support it because it doesn’t go far enough dismantling Obamacare.
The GOP has a 52-48 seat majority in the Senate and can afford to lose only two senators as Vice President Mike Pence can break any tie. Democrats are expected to be united in their opposition to the legislation.
Sandoval joined the Republican governors of Ohio, Michigan and Arkansas in a letter to GOP leadership opposing the AHCA.
