It sounded like a speech of mayoral candidate, but former congressman Kweisi Mfume said it was nothing of the sort.
“We now find ourselves with 140 murders already this year, a number we haven?t seen since 1999,” the former president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People said while endorsing the city council presidency of incumbent Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.
But asked if he was irunning for mayor, Mfume said the political winds were not blowing his way.
“I know that I?m not running,” he said. “There hasn?t been an outcry in the city for me to run.”
As for endorsing other candidates, Mfume said he had someone in mind, but wasn?t talking ? yet.
“I know who it is, but talk to me the day after the filing deadline,” which is July 2.
