Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff’s Passover Seder with staff on Friday appears to have included wine made in a West Bank settlement.
A photo of their table shared by Emhoff, who is Jewish, shows a wine made by Psagot Winery, a company based in the West Bank, according to the Times of Israel. The Biden administration opposes Israeli settlements in the West Bank.
“Whether you’re celebrating with your family, your work family, or the family you have chosen, we wish you all a Happy Passover!” Emhoff tweeted.

The winery has made waves in recent years, including challenging a French court in 2016 that ruled its wine bottles must be labeled as made in an “Israeli settlement.” The company lost the case.

In 2020, the company named a wine after former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who under the Trump administration reversed a long-held State Department policy that Israeli settlements in the West Bank be considered violations of international law.
The Biden administration opposes settlements in the West Bank, arguing their expansion could damage prospects for a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians.
“The wine served at the Seder was in no way intended to be an expression of policy,” Herbie Ziskend, senior adviser for communications to the vice president, said in a tweet.
