Franchot supports freeze in gas prices

Never mind that gasoline prices are dropping: Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot is advocating for a gasoline price freeze over holiday weekends.

Franchot told WTOP radio that stamping a ceiling on the cost of gas over a long weekend would give drivers much-needed relief from rising prices at the pump, but it would cost about $2 million per day.

It’s already too late to freeze prices for Memorial Day — and prices have dropped about 10 cents in the last week — so Franchot is working on a proposal for upcoming long weekends, including Labor Day weekend.
