President Trump said Sunday morning he has “never gotten over” that the government did not investigate a provision in the Iran nuclear agreement that saw $400 million turned over to the Islamic Republic.
“Never gotten over the fact that Obama was able to send $1.7 Billion Dollars in CASH to Iran and nobody in Congress, the FBI or Justice called for an investigation!” Trump tweeted.

The U.S. originally froze $400 million that belonged to the Iranian government before the revolution that overthrew the shah and installed the current government in 1979. That was withheld from the Iranian government for decades, until Obama agreed to release it back to the Iranians as a part of the nuclear agreement, along with about $1.3 billion in interest.
Critics of the deal have accused that money of being a payoff to Iran and claimed the payment was timed to release Americans held in Iranian captivity, namely Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian.
Trump has long been a critic of the deal reached with Iran that was aimed at slowing the Islamic Republic’s march toward developing a nuclear bomb.
While the deal was never approved by — or rejected by — Congress, both the House and Senate voted on it multiple times in 2015 and reviewed the deal extensively.
