Two people hurt in crash with driver who was driving on wrong side of the road, fled Secret Service officer

Two people were injured in a car crash that took place after a driver fled from a Secret Service officer early Sunday.

The driver, who has not been publicly identified, was headed the wrong way on I Street in Northeast D.C. around 4:35 a.m., and caught the attention of a uniformed Secret Service agent who attempted to pull the vehicle over, according to a statement for the agency.

The driver, however, took an exit onto Interstate 66, traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes, and ultimately crashed into another car, the statement added, which was shared on Twitter by Adam Tuss of the NBC Washington news team.

According to Secret Service, the driver who was driving on the wrong side of the road then exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Both of the people in the other vehicle, a driver and passenger who have not been identified, sustained injuries from the wreck that were not life-threatening and were transported to a local hospital.

The crash resulted in lanes being closed on I-66, which were later reopened at around 7 a.m., NBC Washington reports.

The Arlington County Police Department and Virginia State Police secured the crash scene, and Arlington police are leading the investigation, with the Secret Service continuing to offer support.
