Wheel of Fortune host questions those working remotely telling others to stay home amid pandemic

Pat Sajak, the TV personality best known for hosting Wheel of Fortune, said having to encourage others to stay home while he is able to work remotely makes him “question the premise” of coronavirus lockdown measures.

“When a disc jockey or a talk show host or a journalist who is being paid to work from his or her home tells people who can’t work, pay bills or pay their rent or mortgage to ‘Stay home and be careful because we’re all in this together,’ it’s okay to question the premise,” Sajak tweeted on Saturday.

Wheel of Fortune, along with Jeopardy!, is currently taping without live audiences to protect the public from health risks prompted by the COVID-19 virus. Both shows tape within Los Angeles County, which has seen almost 38,000 cases and 1,800 deaths.

Sajak’s tweet comes in the midst of several protests that have broken out across the country by people urging their state governments to reopen their economies. The national unemployment rate remains at nearly 15%, the highest its been since the Great Depression.

A recent study predicted 42% of pandemic-prompted layoffs will become permanent job losses for the country.
