Royal wedding schedule

While some might wake up bright and early Friday morning to hit events around town, others may not be as eager. For those interested in watching the wedding extravaganza from the comfort of their own homes (perhaps with a cup o’ tea and some scones), here’s a schedule of when the events should get under way. All times are Eastern.

 

» 4 a.m.: Coverage begins on most major networks. The general congregation of guests will begin to arrive at Westminster Abbey between 3:15 and 4:45 a.m. Most heads of state, along with Prime Minister David Cameron, are set to arrive around 4:50 a.m.

» 5 a.m.: Prince William, Prince Harry and most of the royal family begins their journey to the abbey.

» 5:51 a.m.: Kate Middleton and her father depart for the abbey. Their journey will take them from Buckingham Palace and through London, passing Big Ben and Parliament on the way.

» 6: a.m.: Kate is set to arrive at Westminster Abbey and the hourlong ceremony gets under way.

» 7:15 a.m.: Prince William and his bride, now Princess Catherine, journey back to the palace by horse-drawn carriage.

» 7:40 a.m.: Queen Elizabeth II holds a champagne reception at the palace where official wedding photographs will be taken.

» 8:25 a.m.: The newlyweds appear on the palace balcony, where they will share a kiss. There will also be a Royal Air Force flyover.

» 2 p.m.: About 300 friends and family gather at the palace for dinner and dancing.
