AOC jabs Michael Bloomberg over campaign lawsuits after Bernie Sanders vows to provide healthcare for staff

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took a shot at billionaire Michael Bloomberg by comparing his campaign exit to that of Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Sanders suspended his presidential campaign on Wednesday, but his team announced on Thursday that he would be providing each campaign staff member with health insurance until November 2020. Bloomberg, on the other hand, has been sued for firing staff members after allegedly promising them positions through the general election.

In a tweet posted Thursday, Ocasio-Cortez highlighted the disparity between the two candidates, writing, “Bloomberg: Uproots people’s lives on fake recruitment promises of guaranteed salaries through Nov, then cuts them off anyway. A multi-billionaire. Bernie: Suspends campaign, still finds a way to guarantee healthcare to campaign staff through Nov.”

While Bloomberg is facing a few class action lawsuits about his campaign’s hiring promises, his campaign did extend former staff members’ health insurance through April despite dropping out in early March. The campaign also noted that members of the staff were paid nearly double what members of Sanders or Elizabeth Warren’s campaign were paid.

Ocasio-Cortez had endorsed Sanders to be president. His campaign suspension leaves Joe Biden as the likely nominee for the Democratic Party.
