RoboCop has joined the police, but it’s not quite the gun-totting cyborg portrayed in the hit 1987 science fiction film.

Southeast of Los Angeles, the Huntington Park, Calif., police have enlisted the help of “HP RoboCop,” an autonomous outdoor patrol robot they hope will help deter crime.

RoboCop was officially introduced at a city council meeting on Tuesday, although it had already rolled around on patrols at a local park for several weeks.

RoboCop, which has the ability to capture 360-degree HD video footage, will patrol parks, city buildings, and corridors. Police said the bullet-shaped robot also has other technology features that will assist them on a daily basis and with follow-up investigations.

“I’m very excited that we can officially call on HP RoboCop to help our police officers patrol our city,” Mayor Karina Macias said in a statement. “This is a big accomplishment for our city, and introducing HP RoboCop shows innovation and the incorporation of new technology. I am certainly impressed with HP RoboCop and can’t wait to see the public safety benefits it will bring to our community.”

RoboCop will be able to interact with members of the public. It will be able to recite simple phrases such as “excuse me” and “good day to you,” according to CBS. The robot also has its own Twitter account.
