LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — New Mexico State University has formed a partnership with a Mexican science and technology council that will expand the schools international reach.

A memorandum of understanding between NMSU and the science and technology council in the Mexican state of Queretaro will create exchange opportunities for faculty, researchers and students.

Officials say it will also facilitate the sharing of ideas and technology.

NMSU’s associate provost for International and Border Programs, Cornell Menking, says strong ties between the university and the governor of the Queretaro made the partnership possible.

Gov. Jose Calzada Rovirosa earned his business degree at NMSU, and he received an honorary doctorate from the university in 2009.

Officials are discussing the next steps in developing workshops, training and exchange programs. For example, Menking says many government agencies in Queretaro are interested in water science management.
