Pelosi nostalgic about Bush

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., called former President George W. Bush one of the best presidents — on immigration at least.

“George W. Bush was one of the best presidents on immigration, in terms of the respect that he has for people and the policy advocated he couldn’t persuade his party,” she said during an interview with Politico on Friday.

Pelosi said Democrats will work with Republicans when they can find common ground, even though that common ground is rapidly shifting.

“We have a responsibility to find common ground and I did with Speaker [John] Boehner as well,” she said.

“Even though I disagreed with President Bush profoundly on the war in Iraq, and what cold be worse than that?” she asked. However, “we worked very much together on so many issues, we passed the biggest energy bill in the history of our country, a stimulus bill relating to refundable tax credits for poor people … progressive legislation … we did a number of things together, including the dreaded TARP, which his members abandoned him on.”
