Fuel tanker truck stolen in Baltimore

A tanker truck loaded with thousands of gallons of home-heating oil was stolen at gunpoint this morning at a South Baltimore fueling station, police said.

A black male in a blue jumpsuit brandishing a semi-automatic weapon forced the driver out of his cab at the station, in the 3100 Block of Vera Road in South Baltimore about 5 a.m., city police said, then drove the truck toward Interstate 95.

Police said the cab of the truck is a cherry-colored 1997 Peterbilt with the Maryland license plate 436F45, and the silver trailer carries a Maine license plate number, 1268185.

Both cab and truck have Baltimore Tank Lines painted on the side.

Police do not suspect terrorism.

“The case is being investigated as a robbery,” said Sterling Clifford, a city police spokesman. “It appears [the thief] is going to try to sell the fuel.”

Police ask anyone with information to call 911 immediately.
