The start of fall and cooler weather means the arrival of more festivals in the District and their constant companion — street closures.
On Saturday, a swath of bustling H Street in Northeast will be closed for the H Street Festival. The festival runs from noon to 7 p.m. between 8th and 14th streets. But the closure begins at 7 a.m. and ends at 10 p.m., according to D.C. Metropolitan Police. Last year, the event attracted some 20,000 people and organizers expect it to be bigger this year.
D.C. officials will provide special D.C. Circulator service to that area during the festival, running free and non-stop between the Eastern Market Metro stop and the intersection of 8th and H streets, according to Ward 6 Councilman Tommy Wells’ office.
Then the next weekend, on Sept. 25, Fiesta DC will be shutting down a key route in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood in Northwest D.C.
It’s the 40th anniversary of the Latino heritage blowout, so big crowds are expected. The festival runs from noon to 7 p.m., but Mt. Pleasant Street will be closed to traffic between Park Road and Columbia Road from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., according to D.C. police.
