James Comey gets roasted on Twitter after advising Democrats not to ‘rush to the socialist left’

Former FBI Director James Comey’s advice to Democrats not to embrace the “socialist left” as a way to revolt against President Trump was met with swift reprisals Sunday on Twitter.

“Democrats, please, please don’t lose your minds and rush to the socialist left,” Comey tweeted in the late afternoon. “This president and his Republican Party are counting on you to do exactly that. America’s great middle wants sensible, balanced, ethical leadership.”

Many of the responders to Comey, a Republican who was fired as head of the FBI by Trump last year, were not enthused. Some of those who replied expressed continued dismay with his handling of the Hillary Clinton emails investigation, which Clinton and her allies have blamed, in part, for her 2016 election loss to Trump.

Similarly, on Tuesday, Comey urged people to people to vote for Democrats in the November midterm elections if they “believe in this country’s values,” after which that tweet was met with backlash.

Brian Fallon, the press secretary for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, flatly rejected Comey’s call, tweeting back: “Democrats don’t want your endorsement, but thanks.”
