Jumper talked down from I-70 overpass

A 23-year-old man threatened to kill himself from about 4:15 p.m. to 5:40 p.m. Sunday by jumping off the westbound Interstate 70 overpass over Security Boulevard in Woodlawn, Maryland state police said.

State police stopped traffic along Interstate 695 for about 10 minutes during the incident, said Sgt. Tracy Hart of the Golden Ring Barrack.

Police were able to contact the man?s girlfriend who came out to the scene to talk to him, Hart said. When the man moved away from the ledge to see her, state police surrounded and secured him, taking him to Northwest Hospital, Hart said.

“We?re trying to take care of his mental welfare,” Hart said.
