Mike Turner says Congress will receive Biden, Pence, Trump classified docs assessment

Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH) said he is expecting a briefing regarding the classified documents found in the possession of President Joe Biden, former President Donald Trump, and former Vice President Mike Pence.

Turner, chair of the House Intelligence Committee, said in an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” that the briefing will take place this week, after months of scrutiny surrounding the discovery of documents in both former presidents’ and vice president’s private homes and offices.

MTG SAYS TRUMP WOULD NOT HAVE LET CHINESE SPY BALLOON ENTER US, OFFICIALS SAY OTHERWISE

The Ohio representative said he learned about the briefing on the documents after the public learned on Feb. 2 that a Chinese spy balloon had entered United States territory. The balloon, which came into U.S. territory on Jan. 28, was shot down on Saturday as it floated off the coast of South Carolina.

“The moment this balloon became public, I got a notice not from the administration that I’m going to get a briefing on this balloon, but they have to rush to Congress now to talk to us about Donald Trump’s documents,” Turner said.

“You can see they want to change the news,” he added.

Both Republicans and Democrats have called for briefings and information on the documents scandal ever since the FBI raided Trump’s home in August 2022, and after documents were discovered at Biden’s office at the Penn Biden Center and his home in Delaware in November of last year.

Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Mark Warner (D-VA) have written three letters asking for access to recovered classified materials in August 2022, January, and on Feb. 2. Rep. James Comer (R-KY), chair of House Oversight Committee, wrote a letter to the National Archives in January requesting information on the documents found in Trump’s possession.

The FBI recently searched Biden’s home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and reported that they did not find any more documents. Federal investigators are set to search Pence’s home in Indiana for additional classified documents. Both Pence and Biden have stated they are cooperating fully with the investigations and the Justice Department.

Special counsels Jack Smith and Robert Hur have been appointed in the Trump and Biden documents cases, respectively.
