Montgomery County teenager disappeared in the night

A teenager disappeared from her Montgomery County home overnight nearly six years ago, and authorities say they still don’t know what happened to her.

Yesenia Turcios was 14 years old when she went missing from the White Oak area of Silver Spring in October 2004.

Montgomery County police and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children say her case is still active.

Yesenia was last seen when she was getting ready for bed on the evening of Oct. 30, at about 10:30 p.m. Authorities say her guardian discovered that she was missing at about 11 a.m. the next day.

The week after the teen disappeared, police said they believed she had run away and no signs of foul play were seen in the case.

But family and friends hadn’t heard from her in a week, and police sent out an alert about her disappearance.

Nearly six years later, it’s still unknown how Yesenia disappeared and where she might have gone.

At the time she went missing, Yesenia was described as a white female, who was about 5 feet 2 inches tall and 100 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. She would now be 20 years old.

Her case has been entered into state and national missing persons databases, including NamUs, the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System, which integrates missing and unidentified persons databases in hopes of solving cold cases.

Anyone with information about her case can call the Montgomery County police at 301-279-8000 or the department’s family crimes division at 240-773-5400.

Tipsters can also call the Maryland Center for Missing Children at 800-MDS-KIDS (800-637-5437).
