PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (AP) — The LeConte (leh-KONT’) Center in Pigeon Forge will ring with gospel harmony over two weeks in 2014 and 2015.
The National Quartet Convention has committed to events in those years, moving the Southern gospel music celebration from Louisville, Ky.
Organizers predicted the 2012 convention would draw 40,000 people to Louisville. That event is under way and will conclude on Saturday.
The LeConte Center is still under construction, scheduled for completion next year. It will feature a 100,000-square-foot, clear-span hall.
The quartet convention was started by gospel singer and Elvis Presley backup vocalist J.D. Sumner in 1957 in Memphis.
