A free camp for a sober summer

A wise man once said: “Hugs, not drugs.”

Yet the kids keep taking them. Enter DEFY, or Drug Education For Youth, which is hosting a free summer camp for D.C. youth between Aug. 7 and 13 in Brookeville, Md.

DEFY, a drug and violence prevention program, serves kids between the ages of 9 and 12 who live in designated “Weed & Seed” areas of the city.

According to D.C. Public Schools, which announced the residential camp, the programs will mix team building and healthy activities with topics like drug resistance, self-esteem, conflict resolution and gang awareness.

You can fill out an application for the free camp here.
