New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez warned the GOP could reject future presidential election results if it wins control of the House in 2022.
Ocasio-Cortez described the Jan. 6 Capitol riot as “a trial run” during a town hall meeting in Queens this week and said the only reason the mayhem on that day was not worse was because “Democrats had the House,” according to the Recount.
“If they take the House, then they have the votes to not authorize and legitimize the presidential election, whatever the results are,” the New York Democrat said. “And so, this is very serious.”

A total of 147 Republican lawmakers, 139 House members and eight senators, voted against certifying the 2020 election results. The Capitol riot briefly disrupted and delayed the process, but President Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory was ultimately affirmed. Congress voted on proposals that objected to electoral votes in Pennsylvania and Arizona, but they were both rejected.
