Hey, to be fair, if it hadn’t been for Virginia, New Jersey, Copenhagen, Copenhagen II, and Massachusetts, I’d have thought the same thing. Must be that Nobel Prize Obama’s vibing on. How else do you explain this unearned bit of self-assurance?
Blue Dog Rep. Marion Berry told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that the president told him this, in response to the Blue Dogs’ worries about voting for unpopular bills:
The difference is “me.” He’s going to, ahem, get it done for all those in danger.
Perhaps now he’s finding “this is just really hard,” and that had he “anticipated some of these political problems on both sides, earlier, he might not have raised expectations so high.” One has to hope this is not the pitch any Democrat in leadership is using to keep scared Democrats from retiring.
Obama could benefit from an old saying. How does it go? If the only tool you have is a speech, every problem starts to look like a Teleprompter.
In case you’re wondering whether the White House might figure out that his self-involvement might be part of his problem (maybe even before the 2010 elections), check out the current first photo on the White House Flickr page and get back to me.
I think we have the answer to the boss’ question.
