The D.C. Council approved Irvin Nathan as the District’s attorney general.
Nathan has served as interim attorney general since January when Mayor Vince Gray was sworn into office.
His tenure got off to a rocky start after The Washington Examiner reported how his office was dropping drunk-driving cases due to problems with the city’s alcohol breath test program. The problems with the program continue and Nathan will have to find a way to get it fixed.
Despite that, Nathan received unanimous approval on Tuesday from the council. At-large Councilman Phil Mendelson, whose committee has oversight over the attorney general’s office, said Nathan is “eminently qualified” for the position.
