Judge allows Paul Manafort to wear suit to court

Paul Manafort can wear a suit instead of his prison uniform to his court appearance Friday.

U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson granted Manafort’s request to wear his preferred outfit to the hearing and “any future court appearances in this matter.”

Special counsel Robert Mueller’s team alleges President Trump’s former campaign chairman violated the terms of his plea agreement by lying about his contact with Konstantin Kilimnik, a political operative with ties to Russian intelligence. Manafort’s lawyers have disputed the allegation, saying their client did not “intentionally” provide false information.

Manafort’s expensive taste in suits garnered attention during his criminal trial last year in Virginia. Manafort spent more than $1.3 million on suits and other sartorial choices between 2010 and 2014.

The judge in the Virginia trial previously denied Manafort’s request to wear a suit to court. U.S. District Court Judge T.S. Ellis III argued Manafort should not receive special treatment because he was no different than other defendants who had been convicted of a crime.
