John Brennan: Trump’s tweet shows he’s nervous about the Russia probe

Former CIA Director John Brennan said President Trump’s Monday tweet claiming former President Barack Obama agreed to the Russia investigation to scuttle his election chances shows that Trump is getting more nervous about Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

“This tweet is a great example of your paranoia, constant misrepresentation of the facts, and increased anxiety and panic (rightly so) about the Mueller investigation. When will those in Congress and the 30 percent of Americans who still support you realize you are a charlatan?” Brennan tweeted Monday.

In his morning tweet, Trump accused his predecessor of launching an investigation into the Trump campaign to help Hillary Clinton and again denied his campaign colluded with Russia during the election.

“Why did the Obama Administration start an investigation into the Trump Campaign (with zero proof of wrongdoing) long before the Election in November? Wanted to discredit so Crooked H would win. Unprecedented. Bigger than Watergate! Plus, Obama did NOTHING about Russian meddling,” Trump tweeted.

The president frequently accuses Obama of failing to stop Russian meddling in the 2016 election, despite warnings from the intelligence community about Moscow’s efforts.

After the intelligence community revealed its findings, the Obama administration expelled 35 Russian diplomats, closed two Russian diplomatic compounds located in the U.S., and implemented sanctions on Russian entities in response to the election interference.
